Sunday Cinema - The Doncumentary, The Beginning

This is what started it all 3 years ago.

Steezy Cortese

Garrett Cortese. I don't want to short him of the honorable credit he's due by writing a small paragraph on him so I'm going to do my best of summing this guy up.
Garrett Cortese is the senior photographer/photo editor/writer for Alliance Wakeboard Magazine.

I met Garrett 3 years ago when I first started interning for Alliance. In 2007, Alliance sent me to Florida to shadow Garrett for a week. In that short amount of time I learned more about photography than I ever had in any class I've taken or book I've read. All the trips I've been on with Garrett, I'm shooting video and he's shooting stills, but I always seem to leave with more information about photography than I had when I arrived.

Garrett went to school in Colorado and started working for a newspaper before he worked for Alliance. He has paved a way in photography that shows his unique perspective on wakeboarding and it's lifestyle by always experimenting and looking for new ways to shoot. His style has been proven by the numerous cover shots and editorial photography he has shot. He's traveled ALL corners of the world and takes with him as much knowledge traveling can give to one.

Although I focus my career on video production, I've always been a huge fan of photography and have always wanted to be a professional photographer. After working closely with Garrett Cortese for the past 3 years, G easily makes my top list of photographers along side Cole Barash, Jimmy Fontaine, Vincent Laforet, Dustin Humphrey, and Annie Leibovitz. This is my dedication to Steezy Cortese.
The man!!!!

PB & Jelly Time

This is my good friend Scott Seiver. He just sent me the link to 1 of the blogs he has running. Scott is an artist to say the least and always has so much going on his plate that it's difficult to fathom the idea that he has for anything else.
Check out his blog PB and JellyTime and be sure to check back in for a timelapse I have of Scott doing what he does best.

Board Meeting

John Daniels and I were messing with some water, lights, and an old suit last night.

Reef

I'm editing a piece for Reef right now. After Effects is fun.

Sine Wakeboards

A few months ago I had the opportunity to meet Zach Horn and Andy Bass. 2 guys in the wakeboard industry with a different marketing strategy than I had ever heard of up until this point. They just finished a huge video shoot to launch their brand, Sine Wakeboards, and I put it up on my work (Alliance) site yesterday. Check out the video... it's pretty mento!

Ezera Surfboards

Sum
mer is here. Go order a 5'10 - 6'1, fish, quad, or whatever it is that you shred during the small wave months. Dave Pearson, of Ezera Surfboards, is one of my favorite shapers, hell, I wouldn't post his board company on here if he wasn't. He shaped me my first rounded thumb 5'11 back in 2003 when I moved to Hawaii and that board to this day is still one of the best I've ever surfed.
Holler at Dave and get a board for the summer. He'll set you up nice, and be sure to check back in for footage of Dave's son, Sean, ripping the shit out of the pier. I think his kids only 16 so keep an eye out, you'll be seeing plenty of him in the future.

Memorial Day

I hope you all had a great day of remembrance for those who have died in our nation's service! As for me, I'm currently on the injured list with a possible cracked rib, so I headed down in the morning to try and clip a few of the boys; Sean Murphy, Aaron Coyle, and Sean Pearson. With what was showing to be a decent south swell, they all got a few fun waves. If I walk away with 1 usable clip from a shoot, I'm stoked. Here are a few screen grabs of the day, as well as my FCP timeline.

Cole Barash

Cole Barash... one of my favorite photographers of all time. He started shooting at a very young age, I think he was 12 or 14 or some ridiculous age to know exposure and film. He has managed to shoot his way to the top and become one of the top snowboard photographers in the industry. In fact, I'm almost certain he is the first ever snowboard photographer to be in PDN. I met Cole when he was living with the boys at the Wisconsin Street house. I'll probably see him twice a year at most, but I see his published work every month in Snowboarder, Transworld Snowboard Magazine, Frequency, etc...
Check out Cole's blog to see updates on his travels and everything else going on in his world and be sure to check out Cole's site.

Sunday Cinema

I have a lot of videos I've shot and edited over the years. I figure Sundays are a great day to post some clips for all of you to check out, hate, enjoy, etc...
This is James Mcknight. I've known James since I was 10, and since I've known him, he has always been the one to progress at whatever sport he picked up. This clip is James taking a lunch break at Kyle Carnohan's famous Vista mini. Enjoy.

Cookie Monster

This is my friend Pamela Rouzer. She is an insane graphic designer and artist that is currently working for SDAcreative.
She was in town yesterday (which is rare) and stopped by to make some cookies. They were delicious. Keep an eye out for Pamela Rouzer, she's legit!

UPPERS = downers

Reid, Ryan, and myself woke up at 5 this morning for a shitty 45 minute surf session at upper Trestles, but it still felt good to get in the water. iPhone photos are cool... sometimes

Zach Rhinehart

Out of the 10 years I've had a camera in my hand, I have never shot more footage of a professional athlete than I have of Zach Rhinehart. He is the most progressive, consistant, and unique surfer I know. One day in June of 2007, Zach and I shot for 3 hours on a clean south swell and was able to get enough clips for a video on Transworld Surf.

Justice

A rad music video by the band Justice.

Dirty D

This is my friend, Dustin O'Ferrall, from Canada. He snowboards just as much as he wakeboards and you can really tell by the unique jibbing style he has. While out in Florida for a ProTec Helmet shoot, I had the chance to shoot and edit this video of Dustin
